Day Two / 15th September 11:15am
The first part of this session will be run by Sarah Lewis RTPI.
The presentation will be based on the RTPI Practice Advice: Dementia and Town Planning – I will include details of prevalence rates across the country, impact of the local environment and the ability of people with dementia to remain active. Will discuss how a persons local area can be enabling or disabling. There will be a section on factors that contribute to good urban design and good design within the home. There will be case studies to demonstrate good practice. The message is that simple, integrated interventions and partnership working can help people with dementia to live well for longer.
The second part will be run by Marta Dzuidzi and Maria Dunn
Worcestershire County Council and the three south Worcestershire Councils (Malvern Hills, Wychavon and Worcester City) worked in partnership to develop a draft Planning for Health in South Worcestershire Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). The document provides guidance on planning for and creating healthier developments. A separate section of the SPD is dedicated to ‘age friendly environments and dementia’.
